Dennis Mele issued Restraining Order!
A festive rally took place in Ft. Lauderdaule on January 16, 2009. Under the watchful eye of law enforcment, we held signs and banners, chanted, banged on drums, and performed street theatre. At the end of the rally, a restraining order was attemptively delivered, but they had barricated the doors.
RESTRAINING ORDER FOR DENNIS MELE:
This matter having come before the Earth First! Judicial Consensus Court Application for Restraining Order and/or Injunction, the court having considered the pleadings, and otherwise being fully advised in the premises finds:
1. Immediate and irreparable injury will result if a restraining order is not issued immediately as requested
2. The order shall be effective indefinitely unless the respondent Dennis Mele, actively particiaptes in Everglades Restoration.
Therefore, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT:
Respondent Dennis Mele, directly or through any agents, together with any persons and/or entities operating on behalf of and/or in concert with Dennis Mele are hereby restrained and enjoined from:
The greater Everglades bioregion, including but not limited to the parcel of land between Lyons and Banks Road in Coconut Creek and Margate.

Seventeen Earth First! activists were arrested in an effort to re-open Barley Barber swamp for public use and immediate scientific monitoring. Expressing great concern for the impact Florida Power and Light has had on this landmark property, activists engaged in civil disobedience to assert the need for immediate independent scientific monitoring of the oldest bald cypress trees in Florida. The group has made multiple requests of FPL to re-open the swamp and address the deteriorating condition of the area they promised to preserve.
Six of the activists entered the area of the Barley Barber swamp where the old boardwalk still stands awaiting visitors. They refused to leave their positions in the swamp without an official commitment from FPL to end their contamination and draining of area wetlands. Others were arrested during a support rally on adjacent property.
Many are awaiting trial. (Click here to see a video on the standoff on the mainstream news )
APR '08: After shaming Armando Olivera into surrender and flicking the off switch at FPL´s ´Old Stinky´ in Riviera, we endured a long, wet ride on our trusty steeds and finally arrived at the Kommissioners´ Evil Lair.

We breached security with ease, Joint Terrorism Task Force and all.

We stayed calm, trying to blend in, and sat around bored off our asses, waiting for exactly the right moment...

and sprung in action, spontaneously seizing
the airwaves, convincing everyone in TV World that we were indeed right.
FPL offered us zillions of dollars and begged for mercy--we showed them
none. ¨prison for corruption¨ we proclaimed--just like it says
there on TV--with a horn honk for emphasis!
After we won, we were escorted out in victory
by our new personal security guards who have sworn eternal loyalty to
us REAL clowns in absence of their former bosses, those imposters at
the dais. Palm Beach County has been rescued from near disaster. nothing
left to see here, folks. you can all go back to sleep now...

Earth First! shuts down FPL's power plant construction site!
FEB
'08: In a wildly successful post-rendezvous action, hundreds
of Earth First! protestors shut down FPL's West County Energy Center's
construction site for almost 6 hours, as well as the related Palm Beach
Aggregates rock mine and a nearby cement plant. Palm Beach Aggregates
is the company that sold FPL the land for the power plant as part of
a corrupt land deal that has landed county commissioner Tony Masilotti
in prison for five years. In addition, rock mining is one of the first
steps in physically destroying Everglades wetlands and providing construction
material for new development to permanently replace the wetlands.
26 people were arrested for refusing to leave the blockade after police dispersal orders. After about 36 hours in jail during which several people were handled roughly and/or assaulted, all activists were released on their own recognizance or on bond. One juvenile arrestee was never brought up on charges, one case was settled in court, and the other 24 await trial.

FPL Shareholders Meeting Blockaded
MAY
'07: As FPL shareholders arrived to meet at the company headquarters,
Project Awareness and EEF! members blockaded the entrance road.
Activists Occupy Downtown West Palm Beach Billboard
MAY
'07: Activists from Project Awareness and Everglades Earth First! hung banners
and locked themselves to a prominent rooftop billboard to call for a sustainable
future for western Palm Beach County, just before the county commission
was to vote on a major development project. Their colorful banners showed
an alligator chomping a power plant and read: “Got Water? They would:
FPL’s West County Plant ->18 million gallons a Day” and “Callery
Judge Town -> 5 million gallons a day. Keep it Rural, Keep it Wild. No
new FPL Plant.” Both occupants were arrested but received plea deals
of community service. The Callery Judge project was not approved, and is
undergoing revision for a second application.
